Nice to meet you. I had my LASIK procedure in February 2015 and have been suffering with severe Dry Eye Syndrome ever since. I created this website to tell my story. I'm hoping you can avoid the same fate.
After 20 months of suffering in silence, I decided to give myself a voice. Dry Eye Syndrome (DES) is serious condition and often misunderstood. LASIK doctor's don't want to deal with us. They want the next paycheck sitting in their exam room.
My hope is that this site may help other sufferers and raise awareness about the potential side effects of having laser surgery on your eyes. LASIK is a successful procedure for many people, but there are a lot of things that can go wrong and doctors' often don't reveal the full spectrum of potential risks and side effects. Shooting lasers in your eyes can wreak havoc on your tear production system.
According to my research, 50% of LASIK patients experience temporary and/or permanent Dry Eye Syndrome. In more serious cases, some can lose their sight all together or require corneal transplants. In recent years, the original FDA LASIK approver has come out against the procedure, requesting a moratorium on future surgeries to prevent further harm to general public.
If you are considering LASIK, it's important to learn about all of the risks so you can make an informed decision. My doctor told me there were no risks. None. I never had the opportunity to make an informed decision. Given the proper knowledge, I would gladly have my glasses back. Will you make the same mistake?
